A successfull mixture Trucks, mobile cranes and stackers come together
at the Weisel company. It’s the mixture that makes it up: with its wide
range of equipment the company is well placed.
Nearly two years ago the family-owned Weisel company moved from Mainz to
nearby Gau-Algesheim. Anyway nothing special – but this case is
different. Andreas Weisel remembers: “The location was perfect, the
buildings, a former Bundeswehr depot, as well. In less then three days
we managed the complete removal.“ Quite a feat considering, that not
only the office equipment but even a whole repair shop and an impressive
fleet had to be relocated: 30 stackers, 3 heavy telescopic cranes, 7
trucks, 4 vans and 9 trailer and trailer skips are actually in stock.
The unusual mixture leads one to assume that Weisel is operating in a
special business – machine transportation and operating removals occupy
the central position. A matter of honour so, that their own removal was
managed that fast.
The full name of the company is Weisel Gabelstapler + Transporte GmbH,
four managing directors are in charge of the operating business: Werner
Weisel, who founded the company at the early Seventies in Mainz, his two
sons Andreas and Thomas and his daughter Christa. Andreas Weisel is
responsible for merchandise planning and is clearly stating: “If we are
short, everyone makes everyone’s job. It is not unusual for me and my
brother steering a truck or crane to the construction site.” So it is
not surprising that every driver even has a driver license for stackers
and cranes and operates the vehicle without any problems. “We feature
stackers of all kind from electric pallet trucks to fork-lift trucks up
to 25 tons capacity”, tells Andreas Weisel. One should mention that the
25 tons truck has a tare weight of 31 tons. To relocating such a vehicle
a flat bed trailer with a tractor for semi-trailor is required that is
up to the weight and the fifth wheel load of up to 16 tons. Such a truck
has recently been purchased: the Volvo FH 12 of the new generation with
liftable advance axle, 500 PS turbocompound engine and retarder for
heavy goods. Even comfort does not come off badly: the driver enjoys a
Globetrotter cab with many accessories like air-conditioning and
refrigerator. Three more Volvos are in stock, tow traction units and a
7,5 tons truck FL608. However the small one is powerful, too. As the
FL608 is most of the time driving fully loaded and with trailer, it has
a long cabin and the most powerful available 210 PS engine.
Currently Weisel switches the whole truck fleet to vehicles with
long-distance traffic cabs because the company operates more and more
nationwide and abroad. On behalf of Scotch3M the company relocated the
complete production centre for high-capacity isolators from Bremen to
Milan. For IBM a part of the production plant was relocated from Mainz
to Lake Balaton in Hungary. The company’s own relocation was a stroke of
luck not only with respect to the new location since it is very close to
a couple of regional large companies. As a result many of them and also
of their suppliers today are steady clients. The requested services are
not only transportation but storage as well. Another advantage of the
location: the storage capacity is roughly 6.000 square metres. One
warehouse is leased to a machine dealer, about 2.000 square metres are
contingent space and the remaining area is dedicated for the own stacker
fleet. Some of the boxes contain goods of a completely different nature:
Amphoras found in an ancient roman temple in Mainz. When looking for a
suitable storage facility the archaeologists discovered the right place
at Andreas Weisel. He takes this with a sense of humour:
Now we can offer really everything, from antiquity to hightech .
